Fixed Term Appointment for up to 24 months

Research Assistant salary: £26,720 – 29,700 per annum

Research Associate salary: £30,520 – £35,860 per annum

The preferred starting date for this post is February 2010 or shortly thereafter.

The Department of Computing is a leading department of Computer Science among UK Universities. It has consistently been awarded the highest research rating (5*) in Research Assessment Exercises (RAE), coming 2nd in the 2008 RAE, and was rated as "Excellent" in the previous national assessment of teaching quality.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for either a Research Assistant (at the pre-doctoral level) or a Research Associate (at the post-doctoral level) for the prestigious ERC project ‘Partial Behaviour Modelling: A Foundation for Incremental and Iterative Model-Based Software Engineering’. The purpose of this project is to develop the foundations, techniques and tools that will enable the automated construction of partial behaviour models from multiple sources of partial specifications, the provision of early feedback through automated partial behaviour model analysis, and the support incremental, iterative elaboration of behaviour models.

Within the project this position will be responsible for conducting research activities, writing research reports and developing tool support.

To apply for this position, you will need to have a strong computing background. You should have proven knowledge and track record in one or more of the following areas: partial behaviour models, model checking, automated reasoning and automated learning.

You will have a PhD degree (or equivalent for the Research Associate post) or a Masters degree (or equivalent for the Research Assistant post) in an area pertinent to the subject area, i.e., Computing or Engineering with a focus on formal models of software requirements and design.

You must have excellent communication skills and be able to organise your own work with minimal supervision and prioritise work to meet deadlines. Preference will be given to applicants with a proven research record and publications in the relevant areas.  All applicants must be fluent in spoken and written English.
